The Special Month of May

What is special about the month of May?

May is special as the peak of spring in the Northern Hemisphere; and marks a transition to warmer weather.

Though it may be folklore, May is likely named after the Roman goddess of growth, Maia, who oversaw the growth of plants.

May is often associated with early blooming flowers, like daffodils and crocus; and the "Flower Moon".

The vibrant colors and growth associated with spring can shift mindsets, fostering feelings of optimism, creativity, and motivation.

Spending time in green spaces reduces stress hormones.   Nature's major color in spring is green. As plants awaken from winter, they produce chlorophyll, which paints landscapes in various fresh, vibrant, and light shades of green.

The Spring Palette

While green dominates the overarching landscape, spring is a dynamic season known for a variety of colorful accents that emerge alongside the foliage:

-Yellow: Often the first floral color to appear in early spring, seen in bright buttercups, daffodils, and dandelions.

-Soft Pinks & Whites: The signature hues of blossoming trees like magnolias, dogwoods, and cherry blossoms.

-Purples & Blues: Early bloomers like crocuses, bluebells, and violets frequently dot the earth.
