“Shop Small” Business is an annual small business Saturday event each year. The event occurs this year on Saturday, November 29th, between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
American Express created the event in 2010 to encourage consumers to shop at local businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, to give small businesses more support during this very busy shopping period.
The U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) started co-sponsoring this event in 2011. The event is also supported by local officials in all fifty states.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, “Small businesses are the engine of the American economy -- creating jobs, driving innovation, and strengthening communities.”
Small businesses are the majority of businesses in the U.S. and are responsible for the majority of job growth (USA Facts).
